Family and medical leave

Family and medical leave is designed to support you when you need to miss work due to injury, prolonged illness or pregnancy, or to care for a family member.

If your health condition—including pregnancy—causes you to be away from work for eight or more consecutive work days, or it results in multiple absences throughout the year, you can take a medical leave.

Remember to apply for leave to ensure that your absence does not affect your attendance record and to learn whether you can receive a percentage of your salary through your Verizon short-term disability (STD) benefits.

Parental leave

It’s exciting when a new child comes into your life! Whether through birth or adoption, you deserve to have precious bonding time with your new family member. Parental leave is available on day one of your employment with Verizon.

Eligible new parents can get up to eight weeks of paid parental leave. And birth moms can receive up to 16 weeks of paid time off by taking parental leave in addition to their short-term disability maternity benefit.

Parental leave must be taken within 12 months of birth or adoption and in minimum increments of two weeks.

While you’re on leave, we have your back and will ensure that medical, dental and vision coverage and your convenient paycheck deductions continue.

Military leave

We proudly support V Teamers serving in the U.S. military and thank you for your service.

If you have been on the V Team for at least six months, you’re eligible for up to 36 cumulative months of enhanced emergency military leave (EML). After 36 months, you will be placed on unpaid military leave.

During EML, you may be eligible to receive an amount equivalent to the difference between your military pay and your Verizon base pay for up to 36 months. If your compensation from the military is greater than your Verizon pay, you will not receive a pay differential from Verizon during your EML.

Unpaid personal leave

To care for life’s demands, you can take an unpaid leave for up to 12 months.

Your supervisor must approve your unpaid leave before you take it. As soon as you know you may need additional time away beyond paid time off, speak with your supervisor to align on needs and to make a plan.

Verizon benefits like medical, dental and vision coverage continue during the first six months of your unpaid leave. During this time, you will be billed directly for the cost of coverage that would otherwise be deducted from your paychecks. After six months on unpaid leave, these benefits will convert to COBRA, and you will be required to pay for the full cost of coverage.
